Anti-Capitalist Britain

"This collection of accessible and informative essays offers an academic and practical perspective on the current state of left radical politics and the emerging anticapitalist movement in the United Kingdom. The study considers the anarchist shift in modern leftist efforts as Marxist and other radical organizations are joining forces and antiglobalization, anticapitalist, and direct action groups at the forefront of present campaigns have united against institutions such as the World Trade Organization and the European Union. While focusing primarily on Great Britain, the study also analyzes anticapitalism in an international context and scrutinizes the nature and dynamics of anticapitalist ideas, arguments, and practice. Also addressed is an emerging form of protest dubbed “hacktivism” that has transcended geographical limitations and is increasingly played out in cyberspace. The political theories presented are complemented by personal accounts from a peace activist, a Genoa protester, and an environmental campaigner."
