Lena Nix’s This Is The Place, is an exploration through interview of the beliefs and history of a small Mormon town, originally founded as a utopian commune in the 19th century, in Utah, America. The film expertly dissects and records both the ideological and physical landscape of this latter-day frontier community, by simply allowing each participant the space to voice their hopes, aspirations and foundational myths and by a cinematographic style that lightly parodies the consumer holiday programme genre.
Lena Nix recently exhibited work at The Centre for Contemporary Art, Glasgow, King Street Arts Centre, Belfast, End Gallery, Sheffield, Another Roadside Attraction, London and at Artpolika, Moscow. She was born in Ireland and currently lives in London.
