Farewell, Fou Ts'ong

‘Fou Ts’ong often sighed, in conversation, to convey his emotions. Things that troubled him, people whom he cared about, the burdens he bore, the guilt he carried, the upheavals his family lived through, and the perfection he pursued, were all too heavy, onerous, innumerous and debilitating. It was his love for music, a love he served with unending humility and devotion, that sustained him in life.’

When the pianist Fou Ts’ong passed away in London in December 2020, his friend of 58 years, the dancer Chiang Ching, wrote a poignant tribute in his memory.
