The “Antioch Review” came about in 1940 when a small group of Antioch College faculty met to discuss the founding of a review. Times were no less turbulent. Faced with a world wherein fascism and communism were on the march, they sought to establish a political forum from which the voice of liberalism could be heard.
In 1941, the editorial board launched the first issue of the “Antioch Review.” In their statement of purpose, they gave voice to their political and social concerns. Read the entire first editorial: http://review.antiochcollege.edu/publishing-best-words-best-order-75-years
